Squad Development and Come + Try Session #8

Published Sun 01 Nov 2026

Full of FUN and focused on DEVELOPMENT, our Squad Development and Come + Try Session #8 was a hit - offering something for everyone!

On November 1st, the MPV community came from across Victoria to meet for our last Development Session of 2026! Community members as well as existing and new athletes worked alongside one another with shared focus and intent: to learn new skills, develop existing skills, and receive mentorship in specific areas (like coaching) all while having a great time together!

Development coaches Gabe Spano and Tully Watt brought the skill, and the excitement was evident from the moment attendees stood in their first group huddle. There was also no shortage of smiles throughout the day and we thank Gabe and Tully for their amazing contribution to our development event.

Athletes fenced, ran, shot and swam from 10am to 4pm, learning brand new skills and developing skills they had. They played games, participated in targeted skill sessions, mini comps, and technique tasks to expose them to a broad range of skills and techniques needed in Modern Pentathlon.

Our development sessions weren’t all about the athletes though!

Members of our community received valuable mentoring and advice to help further develop athletes right along side the athletes, and the coaches in our community had the opportunity to sharpen up their coaching skills by working along side Gabe and Tully throughout the sessions.

A full development day like this also provides essential education for our athletes and community around other important aspects of competitive sport - hydration, breaks, nutrition, resilience, mindset - all playing a key role in the development of healthy athletes.

In 2026 we’ve worked hard to provide valuable development opportunities for the MPV community. We’ve hosted 8 targeted development sessions (Squad Development days) and offered in-event development sessions when running our competitions. With support available to help all abilities all throughout the year, our intention was that anyone could access this amazing sport.

The growth we’ve seen among the community reflects both our intention and the investment each member has made when attending these development sessions. With the National and Oceania events happening next week, we can’t wait to see it all come together for our team. We are so proud of our MPV crew!
